Helping optical accounts understand our product

Dave NeubauerA big thank you to Dave Newbauer for turning Vision Care Associates around in Aberdeen, S.D. Dave noticed that they were putting their Fitovers® Eyewear products on a board with other products. They thought they were doing well, but they only had 8 frames, with three styles and, even worse, 2 colors. Dave also found out that some of the opticians in the store were under the impression that you could buy the exact same frame at WAL-MART for much less. He went through the catalog with the opticians showing them the benefits of the product. Dave noticed that they were also retailing them too low, and got them to raise their price. Two weeks after putting the display in Vision Care Associates ordered another 20 pair of Fitovers®. Great job Dave!

Eye fatigue in the workplace

Not that this will be news for many of you, but staring at a computer screen for long periods of time is hard on the eyes. As an increasing number of jobs require employees to do “near work”, often on a computer, many are experiencing signs of CVS, or, Computer Vision Syndrome.

CVS is described in the medical-dictionary as a “condition linked to prolonged computer monitor use; persons viewing computer screens tend to blink less and open their eyes more widely, resulting in dryness, fatigue, burning, difficulty in focusing, and headaches”.  This is often compounded by the fact that most offices have harsh white fluorescent overhead lighting, and air-conditioning vents that maintain a constant flow of air over the eyes, increasing their dryness.

What can you do about it?

There are a couple of things you can try to help combat CVS. If you find that your eyes are consistently feeling dry, you should try and remember to blink.  This will help replenish the tear film that coats your eyes. An average human blinks around 16-20 times per minute, but when focusing on a computer screen, that amount can drop to around 6-8 times a minute. Forcing yourself to blink can get you closer to the average. If this doesn’t do the trick, try eye drops.

Another thing to try is giving your eyes a break.  When working on a computer the screen is usually around 20 inches away from your eyes.  Focusing on something at that distance for long periods of time can strain the eye muscles. You need to mix things up a little bit, and focus on something further away. A good rule to follow is the “20-20-20” rule. That is, every 20 minutes focus on something that is 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will give your eyes some much needed relief. You can also try closing your eyes for 20 seconds, giving your ciliary muscles a rest.

Another thing you can do, is get yourself some computer glasses. Allaboutvision.com has some good information on picking out computer glasses, as well as a lot of helpful information regarding CVS, definitely worth checking out. What’s that you say? You wear prescription glasses, so you can’t wear a pair of computer glasses? You could try these, they have worked wonders for me :)

Ad Placement

When advertising in a publication there are many factors to consider.  1/2 page ad or full page. Inside cover, back cover, or somewhere in the middle. Color or black and white, and any other number of options, each giving you some degree of control over how your ad will be viewed by the people who read the publication.  One thing you don’t have much control over, is what article your ad will be put next to.  Sometimes this can create an interesting juxtaposition.  Take our latest ad in a European Gun Magazine, I hope none of our Russian friends will take offense.

Have you tried our dealer locator?

The Fitovers® Eyewear dealer locator is an invaluable tool available to our consumers.  When it comes to an accessory like Fitovers® Eyewear, sometimes it’s best to get to know the product personally.  The dealer locator allows consumers to find a store near them that carries our product, and enables them to go and see the product in person.  Although we provide a printable size guide and a list of places to that you can buy online, for some shoppers, nothing can replace trying on our products directly. Trying on glasses in person ensures that you find a style that fits perfectly, but it also allows you to see how each of our styles looks on you.  You might find that several of our styles are a good fit, but only one or two frame styles or colors accentuate your features the way you like.  Using the dealer locator is easy. Just enter your zip code and the locator will find all the stores that sell our products in that area.  Give it a try, you might be surprised how close you are to an authorized Fitovers® Dealer.

Take a look at the world through our rose colored shades

As some of you might have noticed, we have a brand new lens tint now available.  It’s the PDX™ Roadster lens that we developed as the perfect driving lens.  This lens provides increased contrast, brightening and enhancing vision while boosting depth perception. Roadster LensWe knew that the lens would become popular; driving and Fitovers® Eyewear products have always gone hand in hand.  But, I have to say, we’ve all been a bit surprised at how well the lens has been doing.  One women recently contacted us, to let us know how much she likes hers:

I wanted you to know that they are my “rose-coloured glasses”. They create the most wonderful colours and even seem to make everything more defined. I couldn’t begin to count the times that I have whipped them off and asked whomever I am with to check out my amazing world. My backyard never looked so beautiful! Thanks,

The new Roadster lens is available in all 10 of our styles. Contact your local Fitovers® Dealer for more information.
